International Day of Peace – No Justice, No Peace

“Peace is not the absence of war, but the presence of justice.”
– Martin Luther King Jr.
Every year on September 21, the world observes International Day of Peace , a global reminder of our shared responsibility to pursue peace. Established by the United Nations in 1981, this day calls for an end to violence and the building of a culture of dialogue, compassion, and reconciliation. Yet, for many communities, peace remains fragile where justice is denied.
Here in Palestine, the words “No Justice, No Peace” echo daily. Peace cannot be reduced to a temporary ceasefire or the silencing of weapons. True peace demands dignity, equality, and freedom. Families in the West Bank and in Gaza live under immense pressure, while children grow up facing trauma and uncertainty about their future. For them, peace is not an abstract concept—it is the hope of safety, belonging, and opportunity.

At Holy Land Trust , we believe that peace begins with people . Our work focuses on nurturing resilience, creating safe spaces, and empowering individuals to transform their pain into strength. Through our youth initiatives , we encourage the next generation to become community leaders rooted in the philosophy of nonviolence, equipped with trauma-informed practices, strengthened leadership skills, and inspired by a new vision for change. Through women’s empowerment projects , we amplify voices that too often go unheard, enabling them to share stories of struggle and hope. With art therapy and cultural programs for children , we help the youngest generation overcome trauma and rediscover joy, laughter, and creativity.
Our guiding principle is to transform trauma into hope —to show that even in the face of injustice, people can find courage, rebuild, and contribute to a future grounded in peace.
On this International Peace Day, we ask: What is our responsibility for peace today? It is to listen, to act, and to stand in solidarity with the oppressed. It is to support initiatives that uphold justice as the cornerstone of peace. And it is to believe that by working together, we can ensure that future generations inherit a world where compassion, dignity, and justice prevail.

Peace cannot wait. Families in the West Bank and in Gaza continue to live under daily pressures, and children grow up carrying trauma that no child should bear. At Holy Land Trust, we work every day to break this cycle—offering children spaces of joy and healing, empowering women to share their stories, and guiding youth to become tomorrow’s peacemakers.
But this mission is only possible with your support. By joining us, you are not just donating—you are standing for justice, amplifying voices of hope, and helping to plant seeds of peace where they are needed most.
Together, we can prove that from trauma can rise hope, and from injustice can grow a future rooted in dignity and peace.
On this International Day of Peace, Holy Land Trust reaffirms that true peace begins within — when communities transform trauma into resilience, resist injustice through nonviolence, and lead with a vision of dignity and hope for all.

This September, we chose “Unity” , because it captures the heart of Holy Land Trust’s work and the reality in Palestine. In the face of war, restrictions, and economic hardship, unity becomes a source of strength. Through advocacy , we amplify Palestinian voices; through transformation , we turn trauma into hope; and through empowerment , we give communities the tools to stand with dignity. Unity is what binds these efforts together, reminding us that only when we stand as one can justice and peace take root.
