Sumud Nonviolent Movement

Sumud Nonviolent Movement

Sumud Freedom Camp was the launch. On May 19, 2017, Sumud: Freedom Camp represented an unprecedented coalition of Palestinians, Israelis, Jews, and internationals engaging in nonviolent direct action in the South Hebron Hills.

Sumud Freedom Camp with it’s direct action in Sarura was led by local families and the Popular Resistance Committee of the South Hebron Hills, who invited support from a coalition of groups including: Holy Land Trust, Combatants for Peace, All That’s Left: Anti-Occupation Collective, and the Center for Jewish Nonviolence.

Our group consisted of Palestinian, Israeli, Jewish, and international justice seekers supporting creative nonviolent resistance to discrimination, inequality, and occupation. We were driven by common moral values of freedom, justice, dignity, and safety for all.

Although we were a diverse community, we share sacred values that compel us to seek a future in which the civil and human rights of all people are recognized unequivocally.

One year later, while Sarurua still hold strong with the leadership of the young Palestinian men and women of the area, Sumud is growing and evolving into a nationwide Palestinian movement of steadfastness, resilience and nonviolent resistance.
